The ICT shared service is based in Stevenage and provides essential IT services and telephony to both councils via its two data centres. This includes the corporate, public and wireless networks which underpin council communications. It is an exciting and interesting time as the service introduces Cisco ACI to improve and secure its network. Cyber threats are constantly evolving and the IT and staff alike needs to be aware of these threats and protect ourselves to maintain services, with senior security and network technicians like yourself at its core.
About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated networking expert to be the main technical authority on our corporate networks, combined with someone who is focused and determined to keep our networks safe and secure in the face of cyber threats.
You will be crucial in building, configuring, maintaining and monitoring our corporate networks that are the foundation of the councils’ digital future. Direct, hands-on development using firewalls, load balancers, routers and switches backed by Cisco ACI, you will be our expert on networking and a respected senior technician in this area, providing customer support and professional advice too. In addition, you will contribute to the ongoing improvements of our IT offering and technical roadmaps.
A key part of the role involves keeping up to date on the latest cyber security threats and generate awareness of these amongst colleagues and staff, taking a leading role in getting vulnerabilities plugged in order to maintain council services.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
• A proven track record of corporate network administration and management.
• In-depth knowledge of network technologies i.e. LAN, WAN, OSI, TCP/IP, VLAN, routing, switching, subnetting.
• Experience of working with firewalls, load balancers, wireless access points.
• Experience working with networking hardware, ideally Cisco.
• Cisco Certified Network Associate
• ITIL Foundation
• Knowledge of network security and threat protection
• Skills using Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting tools.
