About the role
To have overall responsibility for the day to day management of the Indoor Market and Town Centre traders, including the letting of vacant units, the collection of rents and maintaining excellent standards in respect of cleaning, health and safety, customer service, and budgetary control. Facilitating regular trader engagement through forums and meetings is an important element of the role to ensure and maintain a cohesive channel of communication.
The postholder, with one direct report, will maintain a regular on-site presence within the Indoor Market, supporting traders, upholding high operational standards and contributing to a vibrant trading environment. The role includes some Saturday working and working collaboratively with internal teams to support events and promotional activity.
About you
• Knowledge of how businesses operate, and especially an understanding of the retail and markets sector
• Good working knowledge of marketing, promotion and public relations for town centres
• Sound understanding of local public realm management, maintenance, and improvements
• Experience of coordinating projects and working with tenants and colleagues in a local authority environment
• Ability to identify opportunities and contribute to the effective operation and ongoing improvement of the town centre and markets
• Experience of managing a diverse workload and delivering a variety of tasks, adapting quickly to changing circumstances and priorities
• Experience of managing business relationships
• Experience of managing a small number of staff
• A track record in the development of marketing plans, delivery of actions, the use of initiative and project management ideally for Town Centres
• Ability to be politically sensitive and able to establish credibility and work effectively within a local authority environment
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and in speech with a range of audiences.
• Ability to demonstrate diplomacy and the confident to manage challenging conversations effectively, achieving positive outcomes where possible.
• Ability to generate new ideas and turn them into viable projects
• Ability to quickly establish rapport and gain trust and respect from tenants and colleagues
• Ability to deliver projects effectively, on time and within budget
• Ability to monitor and manage the income and expenditure of the Indoor Market and Town Centre traders
