ABOUT THE ROLE
We are excited to offer a rare opportunity to join our Engineering Services team. In this key role you will work closely with the Principal Engineer and Engineering Inspector to maintain and develop the Council’s built infrastructure.
This role will involve designing, scheduling and ordering both maintenance and project work on streets, pedestrian areas, street lighting, fountains, clock tower, Christmas illuminations and drainage in the town centre, neighbourhood centres and areas managed by the Parks, Housing and Garages sections of the Council. You will be responsible for supervising and checking the work of our specialist contractors.
You will have regular contact with team members, other Council officers, Councillors and civil engineering and electrical contractors and will be working on site, in the office and from home giving daily variety.
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will:
• Have a technical background with a level 3 qualification in civil engineering or similar or a level 3 in electrical installation or similar.
• Have experience within a highways, civils or electrical environment
• Be able to design and create drawings on AutoCAD
• Be able to calculate quantities and create works schedules
• Be able to survey and measure sites and works as they proceed
• Have experience working with construction contracts
• Be willing occasionally to attend sites out of hours for emergencies
• Be proactive, detail-focused, and comfortable working with both technology and people.
• Show strong analytical and planning skills, with the ability to assess risks, document processes, and manage workloads to meet deadlines while resolving conflicts.
• Adopt a customer-focused mindset, using feedback to enhance service delivery and consistently advocating for excellent customer care.
• Communicate effectively, conveying complex or technical information clearly and making sound decisions even in uncertain situations.
• Contribute to a team-oriented culture, sharing knowledge, motivating peers, and promoting team success both internally and externally.
