Stevenage Borough Council is looking for a proactive, detail oriented Finance Assistant to play a key role in supporting our Housing General Fund (GF) and Housing Revenue Account (HRA) services.

As a Finance Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the Finance Business Partner and Assistant Finance Business Partners in delivering trusted financial advice and robust budget management across the Housing accounts.

You will:
• Provide accounting and technical support for HRA rent income, repairs and maintenance, capital programmes and service charge accounts.
• Support cost centre managers by supplying financial information, analysis and forecasting.
• Monitor budgets, prepare monthly budget reports, and forecast income/expenditure.
• Produce journals and maintain budgets and actual transactions within the Council’s financial systems.
• Support preparation of financial information for committee reports and the annual Statement of Accounts.
• Communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and service managers.
• Contribute to team meetings and provide cover for Assistant Finance Business Partners when required.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem solving, analysing data, and making a real impact through accurate financial stewardship.
About you
We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:

Essential Skills & Qualifications
• AAT qualification (minimum).
• Strong accountancy knowledge, including reconciliations, year-end accruals and prepayments.
• Advanced Excel skills, including formulas such as XLOOKUP.
• Ability to analyse and present financial data clearly.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence delivering training to users.

Experience
• Experience in a financial services environment, including budget setting, monitoring and year end processes.
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with staff at all levels.

Desirable
• Experience with Integra financial systems.
• Crystal Reports experience.
• Experience in public sector finance, especially Housing GF and HRA.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development.
