About Us
Stevenage has all the benefits of being the UK’s first new town, set in the heart of England only 28 miles from London and closer still t to the beautiful countryside and historic places of interest across Hertfordshire. People like living in Stevenage, but it’s not without its challenges and not everyone’s experience is the same.
Stevenage Borough Council provides over 100 services, support and information to in excess of 87,000 residents on all areas of housing, benefits, waste, recycling, business, leisure, planning and regeneration.
The scale of our ambition is unprecedented. A major £1 billion town centre regeneration programme is currently underway along with a £45 million refurbishment of council homes. There is significant investment across the town’s neighbourhoods to make lives better, building community wealth and focusing on addressing local priorities. All of this is being driven by a council with a co-operative commitment to working with its communities and driving a modern and agile approach to its work.
About the role
The next 12 months will be an exciting time to work for Stevenage Borough Council. You will play a key role in helping us make Stevenage Even Better. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to work at the heart of the Council, engage with all service areas, and really develop your skills, experience and understanding.
You will support the delivery of a new Corporate Plan by helping to develop the performance management and reporting of key council-wide priorities. You will provide advice and support to ensure we always know where we are doing well and where we need to improve, and support service areas to develop and report on action plans where required.
Working closely with senior managers across the council including the Chief Executive and Strategic Directors, you will take a lead role in developing our corporate performance management and reporting in particular, including the use of the council’s chosen performance management system (InPhase). Full training and support will be provided.
You will also be supported to develop the skills and knowledge to cover other elements of corporate governance and risk activity, and the Council’s emergency planning, resilience and business continuity planning.
About you
You will have the ability to build strong rapport and relationships at all levels within the organisation, with strong negotiating and influencing skills. You will be able to bring together information from a range of sources and summarise the key points, and be comfortable using online systems to handle data and produce reports. You will have experience managing and developing processes, explaining them to others, and supporting people in following them.
You will be willing to learn, keen to develop and progress, and interested in knowing more about how the council works. You will be focused on outcomes for our residents, and the importance of performance management in improving the services we provide.
