Keeping our residents and tenants safe in their homes is our absolute priority.
We are investing in an expanded Building Safety team to ensure we comply with all relevant legislation including both the Fire Safety and Building Safety Acts. There is no denying that the housing sector is facing significant challenges and here at Stevenage Borough Council, we think that by responding to these we will have some of the most interesting careers available right now.
We maintain over 8,000 homes and have an ambitious programme of around £30m per year for further investment. As part of our Future Town Future Council commitments, we aim to meet the Decent Homes Standard ensuring all homes are free from hazards, including damp and mould. With the Social Housing Regulation Act introducing new consumer regulations and the enhanced role of the Regulator of Social Housing, we will be well placed to respond to this agenda.
Another priority within our corporate plan is to provide a great repairs service and having carried out service reviews, we are embarking on a journey with the overarching ambition of delivering a great customer experience.
We also want to ensure we can deliver on our climate change commitments. Through decarbonisation of our housing stock, we have secured over £5m funding to support the delivery of energy efficiency measures.
Alongside the investment in our homes, we are also investing in technology to improve the experience both for customers and staff.
Following the appointment of our new Assistant Director, we are looking to complete our team. This will transform the way we deliver our building safety and housing property services.
We want to hire individuals with the skills and background necessary to go above and beyond the expectations of our customers, bringing fresh ideas and energy into the council.
